
During your training contract you will spend your time working in a variety of practice areas. More information regarding our practice areas, specific services and our clients can be found within the services and industry sector pages of this site.
You can expect to experience a high level of involvement during your training programme and below are details of the types of task you could expect to undertake.
Banking
You can expect to draft agreements, such as loan agreements and security documents, and may even be involved in the initial
negotiations. You will also carry out company searches and legal research and attend client meetings.
Commercial
You will gain experience in drafting, including agreements and clauses, software licenses, maintenance agreements and trademark
applications. You will also carry out research, meet clients and draft advice notes. The broad range of work will ensure you
have a varied workload.
Corporate
You will support other team members during the course of corporate transactions. This will involve carrying out company searches
and research, drafting a range of documents and attending client meetings. Much of the work involves project management, and
you will be involved in liaising with other legal teams across the firm for specialist advice.
Employment, Pensions & Incentives
You will provide support in a range of areas, including drafting contracts and letters of advice, attend hearings and tribunals,
take statements from clients and carry out research. You can expect to a great deal of client contact.
Litigation
You will be involved at all stages of the dispute resolution process. You will provide support and assist with cases, drafting
letters and statements, preparing for and attending court proceedings, attending client meetings, advocacy, due diligence
and negotiation. You may even have the opportunity to handle your own files.
Property
You will be involved with all areas of work, have close contact with clients and possibly have the opportunity to manage your
own files. Tasks include searches, title investigation, client reports, drafting licenses, leases, contracts and court papers,
an opportunity to negotiate documents, research and attend client meetings.
Tax
You will carry out research and work through statutory materials, prepare tax documentation and work through the VAT implications
of some transactions. Be prepared to work closely with many other legal teams in the firm.
Private Client
You will work in the owner-managed business unit, with the opportunity to take on a fairly high level of responsibility. Trainees
are generally able to progress matters alone (with support close at hand) and will be involved in researching tax issues,
drafting wills and deeds and advising clients alongside our lawyers.
