Payments Law

Cross-border and domestic payments, global remittances, the growth of online and mobile payments: the world of electronic payments is growing exponentially on a global scale. The traditional players are reassessing their strategic approach and seeking to leverage existing infrastructure. New players are looking to infiltrate the market with technologically innovative payment solutions. Legislators are tightening up the regulatory environment in which payment services are provided with the aim of boosting competition, improving transparency and protecting consumers.

Payments make us tick. Our payments team are as knowledgeable as they are enthusiastic about the industry. You’ll find very few firms match us for experience and expertise in this sector. We're at the cutting edge of market developments and have guided clients through new product development, regulatory change and transformational projects.

In a fast moving sector, we’re up to speed. We know the regulation inside out and know how to apply it to our payments clients' businesses. We also know what's coming down the track and the regulators' priorities, such as data protection and security. We're well versed in the complexities of the payments industry's network arrangements and latest trends.

We’re contributing to the debate. Paul Anning and Kate Johnson in particular are regular contributors of written materials and speak at external conferences/seminars on cards and payments. We also work alongside various stakeholder groups, such as the Payments Council, the Prepaid International Forum and the Euro Banking Association.

Many commentators rank us highly in the payments sector. Here are some recent examples of our work.
