The rapid growth in commercial applications on the Internet has given rise to a myriad of concerns relating to consumer protection, data privacy and intellectual property.

As a leading European technology law firm, Osborne Clarke has advised clients from the inception of the Internet on a variety of issues, including partnering and linking agreements, protection and enforcement of IP rights, encryption, data protection, marketing regulations, corporate structures, and venture capital funding.

In addition, we have extensive expertise in the field of e-commerce dispute resolution and litigation, with our lawyers undertaking some of the largest IT disputes in recent times. We number IT suppliers, users and retailers among our active e-business clients.

Despite a difficult market of late, we continue to help Internet technology start-ups, whilst at the same time have increased the work we handle for multinational technology and user companies. We advise leading companies such as Yahoo! (Europe-wide), Verisign, Adobe and Future Network plc, and have also supplied e-commerce services to blue chip companies, such as Diners Club, Lloyds TSB and MFI.

Our lawyers have authored 'A Practical Guide to E-commerce and Internet Law', published by ISCA, which is aimed particularly at the retail sector.

Examples of our recent experience include:
  • advising the selling shareholders on the £36 million disposal of Jobsite UK (Worldwide) Ltd to Daily Mail and General Trust plc
  • providing Adobe Systems Inc with advice in a licensing dispute that went to arbitration, relating to the scope of Adobe's license to use AGFA Monotype's typefaces
  • advising Microsoft Corporation on ongoing anti-piracy and brand protection issues
